DAY 8 - July 17 2019
Here is a little update of the crew aboard :
" 800 nautical miles from the finish line! Let’s start with our biggest high yesterday: we were 2 nm ahead of Comanche, the BIGGEST race boat in the WORLD., cruising along on our little Girafon at 14 knots when a 30 meters missile passed us at 25 knots! In our opinion, their Mai-Tais are being mixed right now. Now, for our s*** of the day: we are so tired of being wet all the time, especially our butts! Next offshore race, we are thinking large catamaran with a flybridge or a giant monohull with an enormous dodger. Nothing is dry around here and everything is salty. We are cavemen again... We don’t even have time for a glass of wine! We are at the helm 24/7. You probably noticed on the tracker that we tacked. We also sent photos. (GBC side note: yep!) BTW, you can also follow us on my.yb.tl/naossailing.com. Yesterday was tough: 237 nm straight on but 288 nm logged on the water. Our highest speed was 19 knots, but we did 16-17 knots on a regular basis. The Tradewinds are at 20-22 knots which is the norm, but we are expecting and waiting for a change in direction. We are running the A4 and the large staysail. Our blue spinnaker doesn’t seem to like the Jib Top though... surprising and worth a debriefing with our sailmakers in La Rochelle. Because we have no time to drink, there will be a few bottles left on our arrival. Hot dogs and pasta last night, chili con carne for lunch today: we are eating well. Paul labeled all our food and our menus have been pre-planned... besides, Charlie Brown cuddly bear is watching over us. Love, Girafon"
