DAY 8 - July 16 2018

Here is a little update of the crew aboard :

"Nothing much since last night. Today marks our 1 week at sea though! We are slowly leaving the bubble and should be on the freeway soon: Hawaii here we come! We have a little less than 800 nm to go and the winds are picking-up to 7 – 9 knots. Girafon is going a little faster too: 6 – 7 knots with our background playlist of Moby, U2, Dire Straits, Coldplay… Girafon is a boom box! We are on the road! Full sun and sunscreen mode here, but we are happy to report that we traveled 200 nm in 36 hours in spite of having practically no wind. I am happily surprised at this boat’s ability to surge forward considering the weather conditions we are experiencing. We have learned a lot after over 24 hours with winds of 3 to 7 knots. Our speed should pick up by tonight, but starting tomorrow night we should be fully turbo charged for about 30 hours or so! At this point we are trying to establish a reference record on this particular Figaro 3 over the course of 24 hours. We hope the weather reports reflect reality better than they have so far. You wouldn’t believe the trash floating on the Pacific: it’s my 5th crossing and it is worse every single year. We saw some round circles made of who knows what, about 3 meters across, 2 of them within 4 miles and an incredible amount of floating trash. There is so much, and it’s spread so evenly you would think it was an aqua farm! It is real folks and we need to address it! We bumped into a large fishing floating ball, but at 4 knots it is not too bad. I don’t think Matthieu will ever forget the fishing net that caught us 2 days ago though! We are starting to anticipate our arrival more accurately: we should arrive Thursday afternoon, in good time for “aperitif” right before dinner. Hugs from somewhere in the Pacific, Charles."
