DAY 6 - July 15 2019

Here is a little update of the crew aboard :

" 26.5 N / 133.53 W. Would be nice if we had some wind. Last night was really light again. This is the last time we will talk about that previous s*** thing, you know... Girafon’s port leg. For the neophytes: she was walking on 3 legs. For the sailors: the hydrofoil control system was stuck inside, broken, and the foil board was inside. We were sailing without support on the port side the last 48 hours and couldn’t push it out no matter how hard we tried. Last night, we decided to take the bull by the horns as they say, and used our 4 hands and 2 brains to try and fix the problem. Dr Courouble and his assistant Nurse Charlie performed an elaborate surgical feat with duct-tape, lashing, epoxy and anything they could find: name it, they used it! Two hours later, slowly but surely, it worked! Keeping in mind that it takes a crane and 3 men at the boatyard to fix a foil. McGyver could learn from this crew! In conclusion: it’s ugly but it will hold until our arrival. Girafon is dry - er - below and she can run on 4 legs which is great because the wind is picking-up and we are doing 10 to 11 knots straight on. A tiny bit of sunshine yesterday, and a long-awaited shower with Coldplay in the background. Thanks Dove! We don’t smell like cavemen anymore. We even unearthed our Hermes deodorant: Fred loves it! Who wouldn’t? Music all day yesterday. Fred rediscovered Souchon and Voulzy’s most recent concert. It was great! (GBC side notes: French singers) For lunch, we had veal in cream sauce and rice, some cheese that lost its label in our very humid environment and a glass of Margaux. But last night after the surgery, we were Not hungry: applesauce and an orange did the trick.
(GBC side notes: maybe all that cream didn’t help either?) After that, we were off to bed. Bed? A gennaker at the bottom of the boat, beanbag on top for extra comfort and a very humid duvet to keep us warm. Someone asked for sunrise and sunset photos: we are still waiting for the sun to show-up. (GBC: guilty!) Love, Girafon."
